Dallas Paleontological Society fieldtrip
Mineral Wells & Possum Kingdom, Texas
Oct. 13, 2007

First stop was the old Mineral Wells city dump.  This strata is the Mineral Wells Formation, Salesville Shale member.  The age is Late Pennsylvanian Period circa 305-306 mya.  This site is abundant in crinoid parts, brachiopods, and the occasional trilobite.  Some of the best things found were a huge trilobite, a huge crinoid stalk, and a mostly complete crinoid top.   See also the Jan. 27, 2007 and Aug. 12, 2007 fieldtrips.  (page updated March 15, 2010)

Next stop was a location near Possum Kingdom Lake.  There were lots of crinoid stems and horn corals.

Next stop was a location 10 miles northwest along a county road.  We were given permission to hunt there that day by the landowner.  There were abundant small gastropods, echinoid plates, and fusulinids.
