Today we hunted:  1) an abandoned shale pit 2) a big exposure known for plant fossils 3) another road cut.  Very few fossils actually turned up but we got some nice pics.
Spot #1.   The shale portion is completely devoid of fossils.  The limestone layers near the rim have a few plant impressions.   This is in the Mingus Shale formation. 
Spot #2.  This is supposed to be a plant locality that students visit from out of state.  These strata form part of the Dobbs Valley sandstone member of the Mingus Formation.
