First stop was the old Mineral Wells city dump. This strata is the Mineral Wells Formation, Salesville Shale member. The age is Late Pennsylvanian Period circa 305-306 mya. This site is abundant in crinoid parts, brachiopods, and the occasional trilobite. Some of the best things found were a huge trilobite, a huge crinoid stalk, and a mostly complete crinoid top. Next stop was a location 10 miles northwest along a county road. We were given permission to hunt there that day by the landowner. There were abundant small gastropods, echinoid plates, and fusulinids. | ||
