Dallas Paleontological Society field trip
Hutchins, Texas

Today the Dallas Paleontological Society took a field trip to a Pleistocene gravel quarry near Hutchins, Texas.  The day started with everyone gathering at a gas station to caravan to the actual quarry.  
 
At the quarry Roger Farish giving a mini lecture about the Pleistocene Period and what we may find.  While it was assumed the pickings would be slim we knew there was still a chance of someone finding something interesting...

At the back of the quarry in the upper dark silty layer are discovered a lot of pieces of bone including a skull and long limb bones which turn out to be Human.

Wes Kirpach finds some leg bones sticking out of the dark layer which also turn out to be Human.

Also found are miscellaneous bits and pieces of bone in sediment which also contain a bright orange material.  Polly pointed out that this maybe ceremonial ochre.

Around lunchtime the quarry operator displays the best find to come from the gravel sifters, a mammoth tooth.
