Roz Morgan (25 Jan 1949-20 Jan 2024)

Several weeks ago I moved from Caddo Valley, Arkansas (Arkadelphia), to Fort Worth, Texas.  I started a new Texas website so hope you will join me over there. I have taken some past pages on here & transferred them to my new site.

Here is the link to my new site: http://www.freewebs.com/fossilsoftexas/

2007

September 3rd Really quick hunt and a drive by which snared my first large ammonite. (pic on Texas Hunts page) I didn't spot it though

September 2nd Hunted many sites in the DFW area (pics on the Texas Hunts page)

August 31st Hunted north of Fort Worth (pics on the Texas Hunts page)

August 25th Took a very short trip to the river and kept a few things. Pics on the Ouachita River page.

August 19th Went on some area hunts in the FW and south areas. (Pics under Texas hunts)  Lost one of the prettiest echinoids that I have found.

August 18th Joined the DPS for a hunt in Oliver Creek and went on a few hunts afterward. (pics under Texas hunts)

August 14th Hunted the Ouachita River  (pics under Ouachita River)

August 12th Hunted Permian sites in the northern area of Texas (pics under Texas Hunts)

August 11th Hunted Cretaceous areas near the DFW area in Texas (pics under Texas Hunts)

August 5th Went to the Ouachita River and found shark and fish teeth, also my first nurse shark tooth (for all my favorite nurses at Knox County!). Pics on Ouachita River page. Also Rick was at the river and he found a cool bone, and some other nice finds. Pics on Rick Farmer's page.

August 2nd Went to an exposure near Malvern and did find some crab parts and teeth. Pics on the Ouachita River page

July 30th Corrected ID's on a few fossils that I had mis-identified.

July 29th Went to the Ouachita River with Lance. While we were there, we ran into Rick with quite the collection of teeth. Lance and I also found quite a few fossils. Mine finds are under the page, Ouachita River. I will link to Lance's page when he gets his finds up. The exposure is the Arkadelphia Marl. Next we hit another site where Lance found shark teeth and crab parts. I found a vert, a tooth and a bivalve with the most details that I ever found.

July 28th Hunted at my favorite creek with Lance, Frank, George, and Kelly. Pics under Arkadelphia Area. The creek exposes the Ozan formation.

July 23rd Went to Rick's place and got some shots of more of his fossils. He has some that he needs an ID on, so if anyone knows, please let me know. Pics under Rick Farmer's Page.

July 22nd Drove to my first crystal mine, Jim Coleman's, just north of Hot Springs. Pics under Arkadelphia Area

July 21st Hit a nearby field on the edge of town. There are numerous fossils but it is very difficult to find one intact.

July 19th Hunted in a ravine behind one of the colleges here. There were disarticulated fossils in large areas of limestone matrix. I did find one nice specimen of a heart urchin (echinoid). Pic under recent finds.

July 17th Spent the entire day looking at different formations northeast of here. Not much luck in the way of fossils but did get some topo maps for the area at the forest service.

July 15th Headed to the Jessieville area in search of trilobites. Wasn't successful but just received the article with the map that I was looking for, so will try again as soon as I figure the map out. It is a map showing uplifts of formations so it will take me longer (no roads etc. on this map).

July 4th Drove north to the Leslie, AR area. A very generous landowner let me hunt on their property. My thanks to Thad Chadwick. Pics under Northern Ar.

June 30th Checked out areas in the PA age group.. no fossils. Also toured the lower dam a couple of miles from here. Checked out the Ouachita River and found shark and fish teeth, 2 fish verts, and a few unusual teeth that I will identify. Pics under Ouachita River  Page. Most of the shark and fish teeth not pictured as they are already posted from past hunts.

June 28th Drove in the DeGray Lake area scouting for formation identification, then drove off their property to look for the other exposures of the Jackfork Formation. Did manage to find some, but no fossils in the areas that I searched. That formation is not known for many fossils.

June 26th Went to the Corp of Engineers at Iron Mountain to see if I could search for fossils and collect but the answer was, that nothing can be taken out. Did see a road, not on their property that I can check out. Doesn't look Cretaceous, looks like an older, mountain formation.

June 23rd Hunted the Ouachita River and for the first time watched a flash flood up close. Quite amazing with hundreds of feet that had been rocks, under the water with fast moving rapids. Before the flood I found a nice ray tooth and 2 partial Schizorhia tooth. Pics on Ouachita River page.

June 22nd Hunted two, (new to me creeks & one river), zero fossils. On the way home hit a different entrance to a creek that I have hunted before. Found the oysters that are common in there and one that I hadn't found before. Was joined by a few hunting partners on the last hunt of the day. Pics under, " Within Creeks."

June 20th Hunted exposures in the Okolona, AR area. Found 2 Dear Heart clams and a partial trigonia clam. Also found numerous echinoids.

June 16th Hunted the local creek. Also added a link to Lance's site for the entire mosasaur dig..under DPS dig & Ashgrove page. Link to the entire mosasaur dig mosasaurdig.htm

June 10th Hunted in the DFW area with a friend. I found numerous cool fossils. Pics under Texas Hunts.

June 9th Joined the DPS for a hunt at Wilson Clay Pit.. and found a few teeth (blades) that I have never found before, along with other fossils. Pics under Texas Hunts.

May 26 and 27th. Hunted in Texas in the Eagleford & Austin contact zone and the Goodland formations. Found a variety of very nice fossils including excellent shark teeth. Pics under Texas Hunts.

May 21st Found a very small vert, not much larger than a quarter. I found 2 shark teeth new to me. Pics under Ouachita River.

May 16th Another river trip. Found some nice teeth including a ray and a partial Schizorhia tooth that I dropped over a week ago and was too deep to look until today.

May 15th drove a couple of hours north to a hunting area that I had been to before but wasn't able to locate. May have found a rare echinoid, Linthia. Pic under Northern AR.

May 8th Went to the river and most of it is still very flooded but I was able to reach one trail and found a nice ray tooth & a fish bone or spine. Pics under Ouachita River

May 5th and 6th..went to an undisclosed location in Texas and helped the DPS, dig out a mosasaur...lot of work but fun too. Pics under Ashgrove Quarry and DPS Dig

April 28th Headed south in another creek to check for difficulty in hunting there. Did find a bone that may be plessy. Pics under  recent finds. Deeper and more difficult than north. Also headed out a highway that I have been on. Pulled over when I saw a creek. Walked for about a half mile but no exposure seen and no fossils. On the way back, I noticed people in the Caddo River. Went down a boat ramp and while there was a guy fishing and kids swimming, the current was strong and no sign of rock banks, just grass banks.

April 27th Headed south in a nearby creek. Found one vert maybe. Doesn't look like the other verts that I have found. Pics are under recent finds.

April 26th Went to the river and areas that are tooth rich were all flooded. Did find some in another area. Pics under Ouachita River. Also drove south of some creeks to find other entrances and was successful.

April 24th Checked out the quarry for more bone but none as yet. Managed to get the other half of the mosasaur vert out of the matrix. Found crystals of some kind. Pictures under Saratoga. Also found something that I don't recognize. Pics of both sides shown.

April 21st Hunted a private quarry just south of here. Found a vert in situ (mosasaur) and then started digging with a small trowel and found 2 more. Wasn't able to remove one of them intact. Pics added on the Saratoga Page.

April 12th  Polly and I hunted the North Sulphur River  Finds included fish and shark teeth, fish vert, an bone (my guess reptile)

April 7th (Easter Weekend), met up with a few people and hunted a Cretaceous site in Texas. Everyone found a crab. After that went for a hunt about 10 miles from there with Lance. On Sunday, Lance and I hit some of his sites (Cretaceous). There was a large ammonite which was very embedded unfortunately.

April 4th,  Polly and I hunted a newer creek and found several interesting things. Going to have to spend a whole day there tracking further upstream. Next we hit  the Ouachita River area and found some really nice, some unusual also, shark and fish teeth, 2 fish verts, and what looks like the first mosasaur vert, my first at the river.  Pictures on the Ouachita River Page.

March 29th Polly drove over from Tx and we hit Mill Creek (a total bust), a small creek where we scored a couple of echinoids, and then on to the Ouachita River where I found 15 shark teeth and she found around 30, also 2 beautiful intact gastropods (snails). All these are sites are in the south western Arkansas.

March 25th hunted with Polly, Lance, Adam, and Amber in several sites in the countryside, in Tx. Joined the DPS (Dallas Paleo Group), on March 24th to the Ashgrove Quarry. Then a small group of us hunted another pawpaw site.

March 23rd, hunted with Lance in the Mansfield area.

March 17th and 18th, hit the Ouachita River and found shark teeth and a very small fish jaw with one tooth intact...my First!

March 10th, went to a local creek and found a large bone, smaller one, 2 partial echinoids and a mosasaur vert.
